XenApp – No More Resource Manager
With the arrival of XenApp 5 and 6, the functionality of Resource Manager (XenApp’s integrated reporting and metric tool) have been replaced in the Enterprise version with Edgesight Lite.
While this provides the same functionality and perhaps some additional functionality it now requires a server to host and run the Edgesight service and database. It can leverage either SQL Express or a full blown SQL server and also requires reporting services.
The downside to this is that environments without virtualization should run this on a discrete server and will require additional hardware. Even those sites with virtualization would most likely require additional software licenses in the form of Windows OS licenses.
